Tsunami unlikely from Gulf of Calif. quake
There is no moment tensor reported for this morning's Gulf quakes, but we expect they are right-slip events, and shallow, which greatly reduces the potential for tsunami activity in the Gulf.
The automatically calculated shake map shows potential strong ground shaking with light to moderate damage possible along the mainland Mexico and Baja coasts, close to the epicenter [right, credit USGS]
The Mexican SSN (Servicio Sismological Nacional) is another resource.
