Alternative uses pushing copper demand



Antibacterial copper in hospitals, electric cars, and wind turbines are just a few of the new demands for copper that is helping drive global demand, according to both Codelco, the world's largest copper producer, and Freeport McMoRan, the largest copper company, in separate reports on Mineweb.com. Richard Adkerson, president and CEO of Freeport is reported to have told the Reuters Global Mining and Steel Summit that their order books are full indicating the economy is coming out of the recession, despite continued week construction demand.
