AZGS opens summer intern positions
AZGS opened four positions for paid summer internships in our Tucson office. The positions pay up to $12/hour and can be part-time to full-time.
Digitizer
Job Description: Digitize past blueline open file reports (OFR) maps. Experience with ArcMap preferable but not necessary.
Historic Researcher/Content Compiler
Job description: Assist the Virtual Arizona Experience (www.arizonaexperience.org) team in identifying, labeling, processing and uploading information. This intern will have the chance to sift through Arizona history and contemporary events by cataloging digital images and other media. In addition to organizational assistance, intern may be expected to research sources and format images or other material. Intern will gain rudimentary experience in Photoshop and will have the chance to work on an exciting statewide education project. Some familiarity with Adobe Bridge or Lightroom is preferred but not necessary.
Library Intern
Job description: A graduate/ undergraduate student to organize the AZGS Library. A library science masters student intern would be ideal but not required. Weekly hours would be flexible but +25 hours/week is preferred. Duties include
Cataloging donated materials (using USGS format)
Assisting with requests for information
Classifying books and journals in the library database
Assisting with preparation of the library database for web publication
Scanning reports and maps for AZGS online document repository (this would include some minor image processing using Photoshop)
Building metadata and uploading objects into AZGS online document repository
Preparing CDs of AZGS products for archiving at Arizona State Library
Geothermal Data Collection
Job description: Geology student intern to assist in geothermal data collection efforts associated with the AASG State Geological Survey Contributions to the National Geothermal Data System. Intern will work under close supervision of a research geologist in gathering and formatting legacy geothermal data from California and Arizona. Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites, including Excel and Access.
