A pair of large earthquakes hit the northern Gulf of California at mid-day sending shock waves felt in a few locations across Arizona and into southern Utah. A
magnitude 6.2 event was followed by a larger
magnitude 6.9 quake just minutes later. The main quake epicenter was about 360 miles south of Phoenix. [
