The formal program for the Geological Society of America Annual Meeting got underway on Sunday, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
AZGS has an exhibit booth to demo the National Geothermal Data System, and a second booth on the NSF EarthCube initiative, seeking community feedback and guidance on what cyberinfrastructure is needed to enhance our ability to do science. GSA President George Davis (from UA) gave his Presidential Address on Sunday, "Where Our Deepest Passions Intersect the World's Compelling Needs."
USGS scientist Julio Betancourt (based in Tucson) gives the Farouk el Baz Lecture for Desert Research on Tuesday when he receives that award.
UA graduate student (and former AZGS research assistant) Jill Onken gets the Archeological Geology Division's Claude C. Albritton Jr., Scholarship Award today.
ASU is hosting the EarthScope National Office booth in "NSF Alley" in the exhibit hall, just across from AZGS at the EarthCube booth (it's hard to keep the names straight).
