Geotechnical report on US89 Bitter Springs landslide calls for gravity buttress, cut back of slope

The Arizona Dept. of Transportation has released a 463-page geotechnical report on the US 89 Bitter Springs landslide that calls for cutting back the mountain slope and constructing a gravity buttress wall at an estimated cost of $40 million, which could take more than two years to complete.    [Right, cross section of proposed actions.  Credit, ADOT]

A landslide within a larger megaslide complex closed US89 south of Page on February 20.  


Cutting back the mountain slope and constructing a gravity buttress wall is part of the proposed solution to repair US 89 near Page, which was damaged in a Feb. 20 landslide.
