EIS required for uranium exploration near Grand Canyon

The Center for Biological Diversity issued a press release late today saying that they, Grand Canyon Trust, and Sierra Club Grand Canyon Chapter reached a settlement agreement with the US Forest Service and VANE Minerals over uranium exploration on national forest land south of Grand Canyon National Park.

The settlement requires the Forest Service and VANE Minerals to withdraw the drilling approval previously issued and to undertake a full Environmental Impact Statement process prior to any renewed effort to drill at the sites.
