Copper at $5 per lb by 2013?

Consulting and research firm GFMS predicts copper prices will be soft in early 2011 but reach $11,000 per tonne or $5 per pound in 2013, according to a report on Mineweb.com.

That would have a big impact in Arizona which produces about 2/3 of the copper used in the U.S. Copper production has put Arizona in the #1 or #2 mining spot in the country in recent years. [photo credit USGS]

[update 12-2-10, 16:20: I originally mistakenly posted this as $5 per ounce. Ouch! Chalk it up to a brain cloud and seeing too many stories about the price of gold.]
