The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show is showcasing Arizona minerals in celebration of the state's centennial. There are 50 cases of Arizona minerals on display in the convention center, with cases dedicated to the best minerals from famous mines as well as cases of the best examples of minerals from a variety of mines and locales in Arizona. It's overwhelming. Many specimens are from museums all over the country; many specimens are from private collections. Many specimens have not been exhibited publicly for over a century and may not be seen again for a long time.
The collecting community is in heaven these four days.
Going to TGMS is an unbelievable treat and experience. The showcases and tables with the rocks and minerals were great. It is just amazing to see such variety in rocks and minerals. Thank you for sharing the photos and information.
ReplyDeleteTucson gem and mineral show is the greatest display of everything around the world. Luckily for arizonans we have access to some of the most amazing geologic features right in our back yard!

The greatest display of Arizona minerals USE to be in the Mining and Mineral Museum in Phoenix, until the Governor shut it down. Luckily, many of them have been transferred to the UA display, but many are still in storage. What a crime.
