Mining still a big employer in southern Arizona
The two largest mining companies in Arizona, Freeport and Asarco, jointly employ over 10,200 people and are looking to hire more than 700 additional workers. The Arizona Daily Star's annual review of the top 200 employers in the region puts Freeport at #11 with 5,068 employees in southern Arizona (7,800 statewide), and Asarco at #19 with 2,348 employees.
