On 26 April 2017, President Trump signed an executive order requiring the Department of the Interior to review national monuments comprising more than 100,000 acres and created since 1996. This review involves 20 national monuments.

President Trump's
executive order includes an ambitious timeline:
- 'Within 45 days of the date of this order, the Secretary shall provide an interim report to the President ... . '
- ' Within 120 days of the date of this order, the Secretary shall provide a final report to the President' .
