New interpretative trail opens to Marcus landslide in McDowell Sonoran Preserve

The new Marcus Landslide Trail opens officially this weekend in McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale.    AZGS geologist Brian Gootee, who's been involved in the discovery of the giant landslide and the development of the trail and interpretative materials, got a preview of the $3 million project.    He reports that "it is about 2 miles out to the landslide, with many breakout trails to interpretive signs, all in all about fifteen or so very nice interpretive signs, and all themed to tell a story about geology along the trail. The signs were beautiful!  AZGS was acknowledged on many of the signs. The trail was very well built."
