Bill would halt uranium mining on 1 million acres in N. Arizona

Legislation was introduced in the U.S. House yesterday to ban uranium mining on 1 million acres of federal lands in watersheds surrounding Grand Canyon National Park. This comes a week after a coalition of environmental groups filed suit against the U.S. Forest Service for permitting uranium exploration drilling to go forward in the Kaibab National Forest.

Rep. Raul Grijalva scheduled a House hearing in Flagstaff on March 28 to examine the impacts of uranium mining near Grand Canyon.
