We got notice from EPA today that they signed "a proposed rule for the mandatory reporting of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from facilities that inject carbon dioxide underground for the purposes of geologic sequestration or enhanced oil and gas recovery. Geologic sequestration (GS) is the long-term containment of carbon dioxide in subsurface geologic formations."This proposal would amend the Mandatory Reporting of GHGs Rule that was promulgated on October 30, 2009 (74 FR 56260) by adding reporting requirements for this source category. The public comment period for this proposed rulemaking will be open for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register. In addition, a public hearing on this proposal will be held on April 19, 2010, in Arlington, VA.
This proposal is complementary to and builds on EPA's proposed rule for Federal Requirements under the Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program for Carbon Dioxide Geologic Sequestration Wells.
