A joint state House-Senate committee recommended the Arizona Legislature reauthorize the Arizona Dept. of Environmental Quality for 2 years, rather than the normal 10-year period, and also voted to prohibit ADEQ from enacting any kind of cap-and-trade program not approved by the Legislature. All state agencies have to go through this "sunset" review on a regular basis.
The committee had publicly expressed opposition to Arizona's involvement in the Western Climate Initiative, a regional consortium of states that is developing plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide.
