Daily Star: state budget decision drives away high-tech jobs

The Arizona (Tucson) Daily Star offered a strong editorial recently saying that the elimination of the budget for Science Foundation of Arizona will drive away high-tech jobs from the state.

Because the budget cut the entire year's state budget for SFA, even funding commitments made earlier in the year will have to be cancelled.

The paper stated, "The Science Foundation Arizona allocation is, in fact, a contractual obligation that the state should honor. But much more than that: It's the only way to preserve Arizona's tenuous status as a medical and scientific center — and to propel it into the 21st Century."
