The University of Arizona Tree Ring Laboratory, founded in 1937, holds 2 million samples, tracing the lat 8,000 of earth and human history. It's "the world's largest collection of tree rings and it's an irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind resource of environmental and cultural history," according to a profile at the UA web site.
