A magnitude 3.1 earthquake just after noon today was reported felt in Payson, Mesa, and Prescott. The quake was 21 miles southwest of Winslow and 113 miles northeast of Phoenix. [Right, location map from USGS]
The USGS map of historical seismicity back to 1990 shows a handful of other earthquakes occurring in the same area.
I felt a jolt this morning around 8:30 am and was wondering if anyone else in the Phoenix area did as well? I was upstairs and it felt like something hit the house, and I heard a rattle also. My mom, who lives 5 minutes away, heard something also. I used to live in CA 19 years ago, and this felt like a small earthquake to me. I have not been able to find out what it may have been.
ReplyDeleteWe did not record anything in the Phoenix region today.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your reply. I wonder what it could have been...
