The HiRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaisance Orbiter, managed by the UA, released a photo of two adjacent craters on Mars with smiley faces reminiscent of the muses of theater.
"The muse of tragedy, Melpomene, wore the sad mask, and the muse of comedy, Thalia, wore the happy mask."
Project staff Ken Herkenhoff suggests the curved features are wind-blown sand dunes in the crater bottoms.
